Women and jewelry go hand in hand. No matter how many accessories we have, we can never miss the chance to try something new. Although we realize there's more than we chew stored in our closet, we cannot stop ourselves from buying more. This is one business that fails to lose its charm. It keeps booming no matter how many outlets open. Over the past few years, women are a key resource in designing jewelry, and most of them are doing this from HOME. This is one home business that can never go wrong. As long as you, your spouse, kids, or even pet (well, some people train their dogs!), have a knack to design jewelry you can get started any minute. Now how can you get started?
Here's how: decide what you are good at: jewelry has wide ranging options. Chains, bracelets, rings, ear-rings and the list can only get longer. You obviously may not be able to design accessories in all of the above. You should choose what you are good at. One may not be very good at designing chains but can design bracelets very well. So start with what you are confident at. Another important aspect is the numbers. Instead of designing about 50-60 bracelets; start with 10 and then pick up from there. Widen your circle: now that you have decided what you are good at, do some research on who you are going to sell to! For example, say you live in a neighborhood of about 20 houses. Circulate! Make a note of how many women are there are, interact with them to find out what their tastes are. Observe them, and the jewelry they like to wear. Study the accessories they wear and check out what stones they prefer - pearl, jade, beads etc. This will help you decide what you should make your bracelets with. Widening your circle will be of help when you start selling your product.
Get started on the product: now that you know what the demand is you can get started with your handicraft. Take time and design it well. A few intricately deigned pieces are definitely better than a whole bunch of haphazard ones? Once you have created 5-10 of them, display them at the next kitty party or neighborhood sale. Do not copy designs but create new ones. Once people see them, and of course, they are going to love them, you are most probably going to end up with orders for custom designs. The ideas are going to come from your customers and you will just need to develop on those. The best part about jewelry designing is you will soon start a trend of say, 'fish net' or 'plant' designs, and have your own 'line' in place, before you know it. For instance, paper jewelry is rare but once people starts wearing it; it gets trendy.
